Andrew Shellenbarger, age 72, of Marion passed away Saturday, February 17, 2018 just one day after his 33rd wedding anniversary in his home surrounded by his family.
Andy was born June 13, 1945 in Grant County, Indiana to the late Carl and Pearl (Roberds) Shellenbarger. He married Virgie McCCorkle on February 16, 1985, and she survives.
He was an Army veteran serving in Germany from 1965 to 1967. He worked at Gen Corp for 31 years until his retirement in 2002 and was a member of the American Legion Post #10 in Marion.
He is survived by his wife, Virgie Shellenbarger of Marion; a daughter, Kristine Stoops of Gas City; son, Jerry Lyons of Marion; brother, Jerry Shellenbarger; five grandchildren, Jessica, Justin, Kody, Ethan & Jalynn; and 3 great-grandchildren, Jaymelynn, Skyler and Emylee.
He was also preceded in death by a son, Andrew Paul Shellenbarger; brother, Joe Shellenbarger; and sister, Reba Fawn.
It was Andy’s wishes to be cremated.
Graveside Services with military honors will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, March 2, 2018 at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana. Family will then celebrate Andy’s life with a dinner at the American Legion Post #10, 1700 S. Pennsylvania, Marion, Indiana at 2:00 p.m.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Family Life Care Hospice and Grant County Cancer Services for their special care of Andy.
