Audrey Claire Harmon went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday morning November 9, 2013.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on February 22, 1927 to the late Alva and Elsie (Davis) Guynn. Audrey graduated from Anderson High School in Cincinnati and went on to study nursing at the Jewish hospital through the cadet nurse program during WWII. After graduating, she was sent to the Marion Veterans Administration Hospital. There she met Edward Harmon and they were married on June 3, 1950. Audrey rose through the ranks at the VA where she became a head nurse and eventually set up the new surgical ward on building 138.
While working fulltime at the VA, she attended Marion College to complete her bachelor's degree and graduated in 1975 with the first nursing class. Even though she was a full time working mother before there were microwaves, drive-thru's, and dishwashers, she still found time to serve as a room mother and Sunday School teacher.
Audrey bravely faced a form of Parkinson's in her later life. Though she wasn't able to walk or talk, she still embraced life with gusto. She enjoyed traveling and she took her family on cruises to Alaska, the Panama Canal, and the Caribbean.
Audrey is survived by two daughters, Shari Harmon (Bashar) Ashkar of Houston, Texas and Tina Harmon (Rick) Carteaux of Marion, Indiana; grandchildren, Nora Ashkar (Nick) Ripple, Lauren Ashkar (Austin) Baker, and Amy Coleman all of Houston, Texas, Andrew Coleman, Marion, and Beth Carteaux (Joe) Sumner of Avilla, Indiana; and great-grandchildren, Alex Sumner, Tabitha Sumner, and Cayden Sumner of Avilla, Indiana.
She was also preceded in death by her husband, Edward Harmon; brother, Donald Guynn; sister, Marjorie Guynn Burnes; and great granddaughter, Jasmine Sumner.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, which became God's Grace and the BORN United Methodist Church.
