Barbara J. Parks

Barbara J. Parks, was a true follower of Jesus Christ. She left her earthly family at 1:57 a.m. on Monday, September 27, 2010, to go to her eternal home.

Barbara was born on February 1, 1931, in Lexington, Illinois, the daughter of the late Arthur and Anna (Bowman) Duncan. Most of her life was spent in the Marion and Gas City areas. She graduated from Marion High School in 1949. On October 14, 1950, she and Robert M. Parks were united in marriage. Two sons were born to this union, David and Gregory. Robert preceded her in death on March 5, 2009.

Mrs. Parks retired from United American and Globe Life Insurance Companies. Prior to that, she was employed by Urology, Inc and Auto-Owners Insurance. She was a member of the Marion General Hospital Auxiliary, the YWCA, and the Senior Citizens of Marion. She loved her family dearly and especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include: two sons, David R. Parks (Carolyn) of Tupelo, Mississippi, and Gregory J. Parks (Laurie) of Hampton, Georgia; her twin sister, Betty J. Fornshell (Ed) of Gas City, Indiana; sister, Jerry Boucher (Robert) of New Haven, Indiana; five grandchildren, Heather Dang (Vinh) of Fishers, Indiana, Christine Bryson (Jamie) of Boston, Massachusetts, Jonathan Parks (Kelly) of Allen, Texas, Suzanne Parks of Lakeland, Florida, and Rachael Parks of McDonough, Georgia; three great-grandchildren, Alexa Bradley, Brandon Dang and Nathaniel Bryson; several nieces & nephews; and special friends, Jean and Ray Peninger of Marion, Indiana.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Mary F. Walsh, Mabel Wininger and Beatrice Holloway; and a brother, John Duncan.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, September 30, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with the Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana at a later date.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 29, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
