Benita F. Gehlhausen, age 96, passed away Saturday, December 22, 2012, in Marion General Hospital, Marion, Indiana.
Benita was born April 20, 1916, in Indianapolis, Indiana, the daughter of the late Francis and Antoinette Sturm. She married Richard Gehlhausen on November 5, 1947, and he preceded her in death.
Benita was a graduate of St. Paul High School, attended St. Paul Catholic Church, and was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a volunteer as a nurse's aide during WWII, volunteered at the St. Paul School cafeteria, and also volunteered 25 years at the Saint Martin Community Center. In recent years she enjoyed participating in all the activities at Northwood Manor and shared her gift of sewing with the residents and staff. Benita was a proud mother of her 7 boys.
Survivors include: Sons, Francis (Ann) Gehlhausen of Marion, IN, Edward (Peg) Gehlhausen of Plano, Texas, Joseph (Maureen) Gehlhausen, Mark Gehlhausen of Marion, IN, Luke (Penny) Gehlhausen of Anderson, IN, and Raymond (Melody) Gehlhausen of Marion, IN; Daughter-in-Law, My Hoa Gehlhausen of Syracuse, IN; Sister, Blanche Hunckler of Huntington, IN; 12 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by Son, Richard Gehlhausen Jr., and Sister, Katheryn Sturm.
Funeral Mass Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 27, 2012, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 26, 2012, with a Rosary Service to be held at 7:30 p.m. at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
