Bessie I. "Fat Grandma" Castillo, age 90, passed away at 7:55 a.m. Friday, July 30, 2010, at Colonial Oaks Health Care in Marion, surrounded by her family.
Bessie was born February 20, 1920, in Washington Court House, Ohio, the daughter of the late Pearl and Nellie Perdiue. On August 3, 1935, she married David P. Castillo who preceded her in death in 1979. They had seven daughters.
Bessie was a homemaker whose true love in life was her kids and grandkids. She enjoyed making homemade noodles, bread and tortillas for her family. She especially loved going to spanish dances and traveling to Mexico with her grandson.
Survivors include, daughters, Shirley (Rafael) Manriquez, Mexico; Betty (Juan) Cisneros, Georgia; Linda Smith, Marion; Sandra (Gary) Berg, Marion; Diana (Frank) Easterly, Marion; and Bonnie (Pat) Moriarity, Jonesboro; special guardians, Rafael Manriquez II, Ohio, and Eddie (Joy) Castillo, Marion; sister, Wanda Sherritze, Converse; sisters-in-law, Theresa Velez, New Haven, and Emma Castillo, California; 24 grandchildren, 53 great-grandchildren, 60 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Phyllis R. Rhodes, grandsons, John Cisneros Jr., and Phillip Rhodes, granddaughter, Laretta Hollar, brothers, Delbert Perdiue and Raymond Gordon, and sisters, Ruby Harding, Barbara Russell and Frances Riddle.
Friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 on Monday, August 2, 2010 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 3, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with the Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will follow in Estates of Serenity Cemetery, Marion.
