Betty J. Turrie, age 89, of Marion, passed away at 2:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at the Wesleyan Health Care Center, Marion, Indiana where she had been a resident for many years.
Betty was born on June 22, 1922, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late James and Rhonda (Hooper) Matthews. She married Robert "Bob" Turrie, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage together before he preceded her in death on September 15, 2007.
Betty, in addition to being a homemaker, had previously worked at Anaconda Wire and Cable, Bell Telephone, and General Plastics.
Betty was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, where she was past president of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was also past president of the MELBA golf league at the Marion Elks Club. Betty loved spending time at the family's lake cottage, playing bridge with her longtime friends, and faithfully serving her church. When she lost her sight, one of the activities she missed most was volunteering at Marion General Hospital, which she did for many years.
Survivors include: two sons, Steve Turrie (Anne) of Las Cruces, New Mexico, and Rob Turrie of Condon, Oregon; daughter, Ruth Reichart of Indianapolis, Indiana; 6 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, Betty was also preceded in death by her sister, Jean (Matthews) Harris.
Funeral Mass Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Father Dave Newton officiating.
Entombment will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m., Sunday, July 17, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
