Brenda Kay Hasten Adkisson, Psy.D., 62, formerly of Lewisville, Texas, passed away peacefully in her home in Marion, Indiana on Tuesday, June 24, 2014. She rejoices in heaven with dear family and friends who preceded her in passing. She was born in Dallas, Texas to Olen and Jewel Hasten.
Dr. Adkisson was a graduate of Lewisville High School in Lewisville, Texas. She graduated from Texas Woman's University in 1999 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology. In 2005, Dr. Adkisson and her daughter, Dr. Courtney McEuin, both earned their doctorates in Clinical Psychology at Spalding University.
Dr. Adkisson worked as a psychologist for Grant-Blackford Mental Health Inc. for the past 8 years. She was passionate about her work and service to her community. She will always be remembered for her faith in Christ, humor, strength, and generosity. Dr. Adkisson is survived by her life partner, Bonnie Emerick; daughter, Dr. Courtney McEuin,(James Allen); two grandchildren, Hasten McEuin and Kydwyn McEuin; aunt, Lois Upchurch; aunt, Ruby Upchurch; sister-in-law, Sharon Hasten; nephews, Barry Hasten (Carolyn); Randy Hasten; niece, Karen Richter (Dr. Lee Richter); and great nieces and nephews, Austin Hasten, Quentin Hasten, Ashlee Hasten, Holly Hasten, Morgan Watson, Alex Richter, and Ryan Richter; and numerous beloved family.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Olen and Jewel Hasten; brother, Eugene Hasten; grandson, Tristan McEuin; and many other beloved family members.
Her funeral was held on Monday, June 30, 2014 at Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville Texas. A Celebration-of-Life ceremony will be held Thursday July 17, 2014 at Gethsemane Episcopal Church, in the fellowship hall at 7:00 PM. a reception will follow.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Klothe-a-Kid (www.klothe-a-kid.com).
