Carole Ann Watrous

New Effington, S.D. - Carole Ann Watrous, age 65, died Sunday, January 3, 2010, at the Rosholt Care Center, Rosholt, S. Dakota.

Carole Ann was born on June 18, 1944, in Portland to Lester and Thelma (Fowerbaugh) Resler. She attended school in Hagerstown, graduating from Hagerstown High School in 1962. Carole earned a bachelor's degree in education in 1966 and a master's degree in education in 1970 from Ball State University in Muncie.

On December 23, 1974, Carole married Harold Watrous in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Carole was proud to be a life-long teacher. She taught Headstart and elememtary school in various locations, including Warsaw, Maui and Oahu, Hawaii, Anoka, Minnesota, Poplar and Malta, Montana, Deer River, Minnesota and Lemmon, S. Dakota.

In addition to teaching Headstart in Lemmon, Carole also developed the preschool program at Calvary Christian Preschool. She also served as a librarian for the city of Lemmon and as the Youth Services Librarian in Moorhead, Minnesota.

In 2003, Harold and Carole moved to New Effington. After substitute teaching in the New Effington, Veblen, Sisseton, and Rosholt communities, Carole worked as a paraprofessional for the Sisseton School District. Last year, she was employed as the first and second grade teacher at Veblen. Carole was scheduled to work as a paraprofessional in the New Effington School this year, but resigned because of poor health.

Carole enjoyed singing, scrapbooking, traveling, gardening, bird watching, and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Pastor Harold Watrous, New Effington; two children, Bethany Watrous, Santa Monica, California, and Brant Watrous of Seattle, Washington; mother, Thelma Resler, Marion; two sisters, Norma Shafer, Marion and Lois Resler, Honolulu; aunt, Dorotha Miller, Warsaw; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Lester Resler; and two brothers, Eugene Resler and Paul Resler.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 8, 2010, at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, with Reverend Charles Ternet officiating.

Burial will be in Mt. Etna Cemetery, Mt. Etna, Indiana.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. Friday in the church.

Arrangements were entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana and the Eggers Funeral Home in Rosholt, S. Dakota.
