CHARLES L. CHAMBERS, age 78, of Marion, died at 3:03 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2009, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft. Wayne, Indiana.
He was born on August 30, 1930, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Leo and Helen (LeMunyon) Chambers. He married Ruby Smyser in 1953. She survives.
He was an Army veteran serving during the Korean Conflict. He worked for Bowman's Construction Company for 29 years, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of Central Christian Church. He was active with the Boys Scouts of America Troop #433 and a member of the Laborer's Local #1112. He was an avid CUBS fan and loved woodworking, yard work, cooking and spending time with his grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
Survivors include wife, Ruby Chambers of Marion, Indiana; sons, C.L. Chambers (Leora) of LaFontaine, Indiana, and Chris Chambers of Marion, Indiana; daughters, Connie Chambers of Marion, Indiana, and Carol Chambers of Fairmount, Indiana; brothers, Rex Chambers (Jean) of Marion, Indiana, and David Chambers (Shirley) of Fairmount, Indiana; sister-in-law, Martha Chambers of Marseilles, Illinois; Grandchildren, Ryan Chambers (Brittni), Michelle Bowman (Joe) and Justin Chambers; and Great-Grandchildren, Dakota, Ethan, Griffin & Morgan.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Bud Chambers and a sister, Delores Crouch.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverend Jack Wachenschwanz officiating.
Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 6 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
