CLARENCE DOBBS, age 86, of Marion, died at 7:50 p.m. Wednesday, July 1, 2009, at Marion General Hospital, Marion.
He was born November 21, 1922, in Virginia, the son of the late David and Ella (Craft) Dobbs. He married Betty Collins on July 27, 1946. She survives.
Clarence joined the Army Air Force on January 30, 1943 serving 4 years during WWII as an ambulance driver. After his discharge from the military, he worked 5 years in the coal mines before going to work as a machine operator and inspector at the Marion General Motors Plant for 31 years. He was a member of the GM Sympathy Club. He loved sitting on the porch talking with neighbors and spending time with his family.
Survivors include wife, Betty Dobbs of Marion, Indiana; three sons, Clarence Allen Dobbs (Susan), Terry Michael Dobbs (Rene) and Jim Ray Dobbs (Theatta), all of Marion, Indiana; sister, Thelma Hampton of Virginia; grandchildren, Channa Turrin (Brent), Christie Owens (Darby), Stephanie Dailey (Ryan), Heather & Jamie; 8 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by brothers, Clyde Dobbs, Claude Dobbs, David "Junior" Dobbs and Billy Dobbs, and sisters, Ruth Sullivan, Viola Banks, Norma Nicholas, Lilly Surrell and Lucille Sullivan.
Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, July 3, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Pastor Robert Vancise officiating.
Burial with full military rites will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.
