DAVID L. BARTEL, age 67, of Marion passed away at 2:12 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, at home, surounded by his loving family.
DAVID was born on April 9, 1942, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of the late Richard and Lillian (Piper) Bartel. He married Beverly Curtis in August 1999. She survives.
He was a 45 year member of the Plumbers & Steamfitters Union, Local 166, working primarily with Liniger, Inc.
He was an Army veteran serving in Germany from 1959 to 1964. He was a member of the American Legion Post #10, where he was on the Board of Directors; Amvets Post #5 as Trustee; Amvets Post #5 Color Guard and 40 & 8 (past Chef de Gar).
Survivors include: wife, Beverly Bartel of Marion, Indiana; sons, David L. Bartel of Chandler, Arizona and Rick A. Bartel (Tara) of Peru, Indiana; step-son, David W. Jernigan (LaRinda) of Phoenix, Arizona; daughters, April Vermilya (Donnie Williams) of Marion, Indiana, Kellee New (Kevin) of Ft. Worth, Texas, and Jami Bartel (Joe McClung) of Marion; brother, Richard Bartel (Karen) of Marion, Indiana; 13 grandchildren & 2 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Gene Bartel and a nephew, Richard Glen Bartel.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 29, 2009, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
