David Lee Hamaker

July 25, 1958 — October 28, 2010

The Lord welcomed a Christian into Heaven from his family home, David Lee Hamaker died unexpectedly and went to be with his Lord and Savior in the early morning of October 28, 2010.

He was born in Marion, Indiana to Ronald and Marcia Hamaker. He married Julie Welchel.

He was a Marion High School graduate and an editor of the high school newspaper, The Survey. He attended Honors School at Ball State University and earned a degree in Political Science and a degree in Education. His fraternity was Delta Chi. He did his internship at the Marion Chronicle Tribune for two years.

Mr. Hamaker was a teacher of fourth grade at Riverview School and was known for a "near-like zoo" of animals in his classroom. The children planted an outdoor garden and raised chickens and ducks in the Spring. The redbud trees at Riverview were planted by his class.

In 1997, Mr. Hamaker and his wife moved to Alabama where he was a teacher and Principal of the Mowa Choctaw Friends Center. After a severe auto-truck accident, Mr. Hamaker later retruned to Marion. He was no longer able to teach, but he continued his life long love of children, especially his niece and nephew, Kristen and Nick Strausbaugh.

David had wide interests including, history and Christian Literature. He also wrote poetry, loved the Cincinnati Reds and never missed a TV game. He was a devout Christian of great faith and an example for all who knew him. Crippled, and losing an eye in the accident, his faith only grew stronger and he was a witness for Christ.

Survivors include his parents, Ronald & Marcia Hamaker of Marion, Indiana; sister, Ronda Strausbaugh and niece and nephew, Kristen and Nick Strausbaugh, all of Noblesville, Indiana.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Russell and Thelma Hamaker and Emerson and Thelma Thorne.

Burial rites will be private at Grant Memorial Park with Pastor Mark Carlson officiating.
