David Christopher Lerner, age 84 died Friday September 7, 2012, at Marion General Hospital.
David was born on May 29, 1928, in Elkhart, Indiana, the son of the late Russell W. and Pansy M. (Cook) Lerner. He married Mary Nicholson on March 25, 1951 in Elkhart, Indiana.
David graduated from Elkhart high School in 1946 and then from Purdue University in 1953. He was a Pharmacist at Hooks Drugs Store. David was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where he was a church leader, part of the choir, taught Sunday school and was active in Vacation Bible School, and was treasurer. He was also lovingly known as Dappy in the Clown Ministry. Later, he was a Consultant Pharmacist for Bradner Village and United Methodist Home in Warren. David was a long standing member of Kiwanis where he served as past president and was frequently Santa at the Walk-Way-of-Lights at Matter Park.
Survivors include: wife, Mary Nicholson Lerner of Marion, Indiana; son, John (Mel Ann) Lerner of Bethalto, Illinois; three daughters, Anna L. (Russell) Boucher of Leesburg, Indiana, Rebecca J. (Larry) Gulley of Marion, Indiana, Susan K. (Chris) Boucher of Landess, Indiana; sister, Mary Frances Lerner of Elkhart, Indiana; and 10 grandchildren, Joshua Boucher, Erica Cunningham, Kristina Boucher, Danny Gulley, David Gulley, Christopher Lerner, JoAnne Seissenop, Ryan Boucher, Payton Boucher, and Luke Boucher; and six Great-Grandchildren, Sophia Boucher, Ethan Lerner, Jonathan Lerner, Brooklyn Gulley, Delilah Gulley, and Gregory Rice.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Russell W. Lerner.
Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 11, 2012, in St. James Lutheran Church, 1206 N. Miller Avenue, Marion, with Pastor Gary Miller officiating. Burial is in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion.
Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, September 10, 2012 at St. James Lutheran Church.
