David E Zent

August 19, 1925 — March 9, 2012

David Edwin Zent, 86 entered his eternal rest on Friday evening, March 9 at 8:45 p.m. at his home surrounded by family. He died from complications of strokes.

Born on August 19, 1925, he was the son of Volney and Mamie (McClure) Zent of Warren, IN, and was a member of the 1943 Warren High School graduating class. He learned from his dad many practical skills that he used all of his life including electrical work, mechanics, carpentry, plumbing, and farming. Very seldom did he give up on a project, whether it was a clock or a tractor. In 1990, he retired from GM Fisher Body, Marion, after working there for 33 years.

He met Norma Jean Kiser at Marion College (now IWU) and they married on September 12, 1948. They made their first home in Warren, IN, and in 1956 moved to Marion, IN, and immediately joined the Nelson St. Wesleyan Church. Since 1956, he served the church in many capacities such as Building Chairman of the fellowship hall, Trustee Chairman, and Sunday school teacher.

David and Norma had one son and four daughters who loved him deeply. He will be missed greatly by family and friends. Unquestionably, he loved people and generously gave of his time and energy to help family, friends, and those in need. He was a patient, quiet man with a wonderful sense of humor. And in his quiet way, he wanted to make an impact to draw others to Jesus Christ.

Surviving are his wife, Norma Zent; his sister, Helen (Byron) Tippey, Marion, IN; son, Dr. Don A. (Roberta) Zent, Wilmore, KY; daughters, Beverly (Mark) Sheridan, Kokomo, IN; Mary Ellen Zent, Kokomo, IN; Ruth Ann Zent M.D.(Aucha Kameroff), Kotzebue, Alaska; Carol Zent, Kokomo, IN; three grandchildren, Kevin (Autumn) Zent, Barrington, NH; Jenna (Gualberto) Alfonseca, Fairdale, KY ; Cammi (David) Hanna, Washington, D.C.; five great-grandchildren, Carl, Henry, Greta, and Lucy Zent, and Samuel Alfonseca.
