Maxwell Richard "Dick" Harrell, age 89, passed away Sunday, May 31, 2015, at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Indiana.
Dick was born June 23, 1925, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Maxwell and Mary "Babe" (Kelsey) Harrell. He married Lucille Headley on August 24, 1996, and she survives.
He was a graduate of Purdue University where he earned his engineering degree. He was an electrical engineer at AEP (formerly I & M) until his retirement in 1990, and was a Navy veteran serving during WWII.
He was a member of the First Methodist Church. Among the organizations he was a member of, and the titles he has held: Marion Rotary Club, president; Marion-Grant County Chamber of Commerce, chairman; Community Foundation of Grant County, president; Marion General Hospital, president; Manufacturers Council of Grant County, president; Marion Easter Pageant, president; Economic Development Commission, president; Citizen's Advisory Council of Indiana Wesleyan, member; the Aero Club member; the Community Strategic Planning Steering Committee member; and a past member of the Kiwanis. He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid Purdue football fan.
Survivors include: wife, Lucille Harrell of Marion, Indiana; three daughters, Susan (Jerry) Griffey of Muncie, Indiana, Karen (Gary) Shumway of Carmel, Indiana, and Beth Young (fiancé Mike Williams) of Zionsville, Indiana; step-daughter, Mary Jane Robinson of Key Colony Beach, Florida; brother, Donald Harrell; grandchildren, Jerry (Tiffany) Griffey, Tom (Megan) Griffey, Daniel (Allison) Griffey, Jason (JoAnne) Shumway, Matthew (fiancé Amy) Shumway, Anna (Brian) King, Barrett Young, Elliott (Franki) Young, Hamilton Young, and Harrison Young; step-grandson, Kelley (fiancé Missy Sluder) DeBoliac, and 7 great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Ethel "Nikki" Harrell.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2015, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverend Lloyd Hall officiating.
Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., Thursday, June 4, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
