Doris Catherine Ellis

Doris Catherine Ellis, age 91, passed away on Wednesday the 25th of March, 2015 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Doris was born on October 26, 1923 in Kirksville, Missouri to John and Gladys (Reese) Hamlett.
Doris grew up on the family farm in Kirksville, with her parents and brother, Dale E. Hamlett. After graduation from high school, she attended college, majoring in Home Economics.
Doris married Robert W. Ellis, DO on December 24, 1941 in Greentop, Missouri. They lived in Kirksville, Missouri, and later moved to Marion, Indiana where Robert opened his medical practice, and they raised their family together. They were happily married for 58 years.
Doris was a former member of The First Christian Church and Nu Beta Chi Sorority in Marion. Doris worked for Marion Community Schools Food Service for 23 years. She began in 1974, working first at Justice Jr. High School, then later at Marion High School. She was well liked by both staff and students, always cheerful and smiling. Doris loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed baking, gardening, shopping and hosting family gatherings at her home and lake cottage.
Doris was preceded in death by her parents, John and Gladys Hamlett; brother, Dale E. Hamlett, great-grandson, Gabriel D. Wiggin, and husband, Robert W. Ellis.
After the death of her husband, Doris moved to Huntington, Indiana, where she was cared for and loved by her eldest daughter Judy and son-in-law Art Lindblom.
Doris is survived by her six children, James R. (Beverly) Ellis of Flower Mound, TX; Judith A. (Art) Lindblom of Huntington, Indiana; William J. (Judy) Ellis, DO of Marion, Indiana; Charles E. (Marcia) Ellis of Toledo, Ohio; Debra D. (Mort) Armstrong of Avilla, Indiana and John J. (Dawn) Ellis of Marion, Indiana; sister-in-law, Mozelle Hamlett; her 14 grandchildren and her 36 great-grandchildren.
A visitation will be held at Raven-Choate Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 31, 2015. The family will be greeting friends and relatives from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.
Burial will follow memorial services at Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
The family requests memorial donations be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
