DR. DONALD D. BROWN, age 83, of Marion, died at 5:56 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, in Marion General Hospital, Marion, Indiana.

Dr. Brown was born on April 24, 1925, in South Bend, Indiana, the son of the late Dr. Coyle A. Brown and Barbara M. Brown. In 1952, he married Ada Lee Winat.

Dr. Brown was a graduate of John Adams High School in South Bend. His pre-dental education was achieved at the University of Notre Dame, South Bend. He graduated from Loyola University School of Dentistry, Chicago College of Dental Surgery in 1952. He served as an instructor at the University of Illinois School of Dentistry in the Department of Fixed Prosthesis for several years. Dr. & Mrs. Brown moved to Marion, Indiana in 1955 where he practiced dentistry until his retirement. In retirement, Dr. Brown along with his wife, spent five months of every summer at their summer home on Little Arbor Vitae Lake enjoying boating, fishing and the wildlife of Northern Wisconsin.

During WWII, Dr. Brown served in the United States Army 96th. Division, 383 Combat Medical Unit in the Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was awarded many medals during his service and was listed in the registry on the WWII Memorial in Washington, D.C. as an honoree.

He was a member of the Marion Rotary Club and had served as it's president, as well as president of the Grant County Dental Society and the Wabash Valley Dental Association. He was a life member of the American Dental Association, as well as the Indiana Dental Association. He was also a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy; Delta Sigma Delta Dental Fraternity; Elks Lodge #195; American Legion Post 368, Van Buren; the Veteran's of Foreign Wars; Temple Congregational Church; the Grant County Historical Society; the Samaritan Masonic Lodge No. 105; the Scottish Rite of the Valley of Ft. Wayne; Mizpah Shrine Temple of Ft. Wayne; Mizmer Shrine Club of Grant County; York Rite of Grant County; The Order Of The Eastern Star, Chapter 94 in Marion and had been past Associate Guardian of the International Order of Job's Daughters Bethel No. 19 in Marion. Dr. Brown had served for many years in the Mississinewa Battlefield Society.

Survivors include Daughters, Sandra Gellis (Mark) of Flushing, Michigan, Paula Schulz (Neilsen) of Muncie, Indiana and Carole Terkula (Michael) of Goshen, Kentucky; Brother, Leroy C. Brown of Dayton, Ohio; Brother-In-Law, Robert Winat (Lori) of Tomahawk, Wisconsin; 6 Grandchildren, Matthew Cook (Jewelie), Chris Cook, Jennifer Cook, Stephen Terkula, David Terkula and Elizabeth Gellis; and 3 Great-Grandchildren, Brandon Cook, Alyssa Cook and Taylor Jarvis.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Ada Lee Brown on December 6, 2006.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Temple Congregational Church, 1006 N. Western Avenue, Marion with Reverend Dr. Marv Wiseman officiating. Entombment with full military honors will follow in the chapel of Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday, October 6 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Masonic Services will be held at 7:00 p.m.
