William Joe Ellis D.O.

William Joe Ellis, D.O., 78, of Marion, Indiana, passed away on January 13, 2025, at Marion Health. Born on February 14, 1946, in Marion, Indiana, William was a dedicated physician whose impact on the community will not be forgotten.

William's educational journey began at Marion High School, where he graduated in the Class of 1964. He continued his studies at Marion College, earning his degree in 1969, followed by a medical degree from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1978. His career commenced with an internship at Saginaw Osteopathic Hospital in Saginaw, Michigan, which laid the foundation for a distinguished practice.

In 1980, William opened a family practice in Marion, Indiana, serving countless patients with compassion and care. His dedication to his profession culminated in his role as Chief of Staff at Marion General Hospital, particularly during a significant period when the hospital broke ground for the current ACC building. He concluded his remarkable career with retirement in May 2017, leaving behind a legacy of commitment to healthcare and the well-being of his community.

Beyond his medical achievements, William was deeply involved in community service and held esteemed positions within the Masonic Lodge. He attained the rank of 32nd degree Master Mason and served as Past Master of McCullough Lodge, reflecting his dedication to both his faith and community.

William is survived by his beloved wife, Judy Ellis, and their daughter, Emily (Senthil Mukunthan) Ellis. He was a proud grandfather to Nathan, Maya, Meera, Gavin, Meena, and Neal. He is also survived by his sisters, Judith (Arthur) Lindblom and Deborah Armstrong, as well as his brothers, James (Beverly) Ellis, Charles (Marcia) Ellis, and John Ellis, along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dr. Robert (Doris) Ellis.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during a visitation at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, located at 1202 West Kem Road, Marion, Indiana, on Monday January 20, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Masonic services will be held at 6:30 PM.

William Joe Ellis, D.O. will be remembered not only for his professional accomplishments but also for his unwavering commitment to family, friends, and community. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of those he touched.
