Dr. Sarah A. C. Thompson, age 91, passed away on Saturday, June 11, 2016 in her home.
She was born on June 5, 1925 in Kokomo, Indiana the daughter of the late Earl C. and Mabel (Heflin) Chapman. She married Ted Thompson on June 30, 1946, and he preceded her in death on May 23, 1994.
She was a graduate of Marion High School in 1943. She then graduated Magna Cum Laude from Ball State University with a BS in 1970, a MA in 1972 and her ED.D in 1980. While attending Ball State University, she was a member of Phi Alpha Theta (History Honor Society), Lambda Iota Tau (English Honor Society). She was a graduate assistant and taught history classes while working on her doctorate. Sarah was a member of the American Association of University Professors; a member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) since 1939, where she had served as deaconess, trustee and board member. Sarah was an associate member of China, Burma, India Veteran Association and the 14th Air Force Association with her husband. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and working crossword puzzles. Dr. Thompson started college at the age of 45 and prior had worked at Montgomery Ward, the Chronicle Tribune and Bell Fibre Corporation. She retired from Marion Community Schools in 1987.
She is survived by a daughter, Deborah M. (Bill) Hartwell of Georgia; two sons, Timothy C. Thompson of Indiana, and John Trent Thompson of Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren; and 5 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 18, 2016 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Reverend Jim Sonnefield officiating.
Burial will immediately follow funeral services in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
