Elillian Hays "Anne" Helm

December 31, 1937 — October 3, 2008

ELILLIAN "ANNE" (HAYS) HELM, age 70, died at 10:30 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008, at Marion General Hospital, Marion.

She was born in Converse, Indiana, to the late J. Bernard Hays and Lavina (Putterbaugh) Thompson. Stepfather was the late James T. Thompson. Anne married Earl E. Helm on June 22, 1958. He survives. She formerly worked as an insurance clerk at the Johnson-Hoffman Insurance Company.

Anne was an excellent homemaker, a loving mother and grandmother and a wonderful Christian woman. Anne graduated from Marion High School in 1956 and attended Marion Business College. Roller skating and dancing was a very important part of her life. She began roller skating when she was 10 years old and won her first competition at 12 and continued until age 52 including judging roller skating competitions and was a member of the U.S. Roller Skating Association, Indiana State Amateur Rolling Skating Association and the Roller Skating Rink Operators Association. Anne was very involved in Square Dance Calling, Round Dance Cuer, Ball Room Dancing, Line Dancing to include Slicks & Chicks and Exhibition Rolling Squares. She belonged to the Board of Directors of The International Association of Round Dance Teachers (RoundaLab), Indiana Square Dance Callers & Cuers Association, the National Callers Lab and the Florida Round Dance Counsel. She was a former member of the Jonesboro Order of Eastern Star and was President of the Mothers of Twins Club. She attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church and Nelson Street Wesleyan Church. Even after death, she continues to show her generous spirit with her gift of tissue donation.

Survivors include Husband, Earl E. Helm of Marion, Indiana; Daughters, Elizabeth "Beth" (George) Huskins of Mulberry, Indiana, Jane Shaw of Fairmount, Indiana and Elaine Joy Fosnough of Goshen, Indiana; Son, Earl LeRoy (Teresa) Helm of Warsaw, Indiana; Grandchildren, Sabrina & Sara Huskins, Corey Shaw, Kayla & Aaron Fosnough and Nathan & Jennifer Bannon; Sisters, Margot Coppock (Michael L.) Mullenix of Converse, Indiana; Janice (William) Schrader of Niles, Michigan and Sue (Leo) Theilman of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Sister-In-Law, Barbara Swain (John) of LaFontaine, Indiana.

She was preceded in death by her parents, J. Bernard Hays and Lavina (Putterbaugh) and James T. Thompson; son, Robert Brooks Helm; brother, Jeffrey L. Thompson and grandson, Robert Shane Huskins.

Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, 2015 N. 300 West, Marion, with Pastor Robert Dexter & Pastor Doug Barton officiating.

Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, October 5 and 2 to 4 & 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, October 6 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
