Evelyn "Ann" (Hendey) Butler

Evelyn "Ann" Butler, age 74, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2013, at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Indiana.

Ann was born July 24, 1939, in Marion, Indiana, the daughter of the late Francis and Marian (VanWinkle) Hendey, proprietors in partnership with other family members in Hendey Paper & Paint Co. She married John "Jack" Butler on August 2, 1975, and he preceded her in death on February 6, 2011.

She was a 1957 graduate of Marion High School and then earned her BA and Master's Degrees in education at Ball State University. She also attended Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois, and the University of Colorado Boulder. Ann taught elementary school grades in Oak Lawn, Illinois, Claremont, California, and Marion for a total of 39 years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Marion, the Mississinewa Audubon Society and the 9th. Street Gang Car Club Inc. Ann was a car enthusiast and enjoyed gardening, boating, skiing on Lake Tippecanoe and loved dogs. Her loyal dog, Bodie preceded Ann in death in June.

Survivors include: twin brother, Edwin Van (Judy Bruggisser) Hendey of Lodi, California; mother-in-law, Marjorie Paullin of Marion, Indiana; cousins, Jerry (Kay) Hendey of Gas City, Indiana, Gordon (Jeanne) Hendey of Marion, Indiana, Richie (Connie) Hendey of Marion, Indiana, Bill (Jane) Hendey of Edwardsville, Illinois, Robert (Darlene) Meredith of New Lenox, Illinois, Carolyn Johnson of Tucson, Arizona, and Margaret Ann Henry of Wabash, Indiana; niece, Melissa Noé�l Evans (Ken Harter) of Valparaiso, Indiana; great-niece, Rue Harter of Valparaiso, Indiana; uncle, Ray Knapp of Brook, Indiana; and aunt, Annabell VanWinkle Schutte of Sun City Center, Florida.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at First Christian Church, 1970 N. Wabash Road, Marion, IN.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Christian Church or Marion Community Schools.
