Frank Edington

FRANK EDINGTON, age 85, died at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday, April 20, 2010, at the VA Northern Indiana Health Care System in Marion.

Frank was born on November 21, 1924, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, the son of the late Samuel C. "Skeet" and Bess Edington. He married Avis Brown on November 12, 1949 and she preceded him in death on August 17, 2008.

He attended Oklahoma City High School until joining the U.S. Navy. He served 3 years, all during WW II, on the destroyer, USS Quick, in the Atlantic and Pacific. After his discharge from the Navy, he moved to Montpelier, Indiana where he met Avis.

He had broad work experience beginning at Delco-Remy in Anderson. He left Delco-Remy to serve as manager of Idylwold Country Club in Pendleton, Indiana. One of his responsibilities as manager was to organize celebrity golf tournaments where he met several famous golfers, including Gary Player. He then moved into wholesale liquor sales with Fred Beck Co. of Indianapolis. He later was manager of the Triangle Liquor Store in Marion for several years. Upon his retirement, he worked in the MHS Athletic Department at Marion High School for nearly 20 years.

They had four children: Diana (Art) Ireland, Sweetser; Darrell, deceased; Dee, deceased; & Del, Marion. He had four grandchildren: Eli (Holly) Ireland, Kokomo; Seth (Heather) Ireland, Indianapolis; Lacie (Nick Turner) Edington, Gas City; & Emily Edington, Marion. He had five Great-Grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Katy Clouser, several neices & nephews, family friend, Diane Hyman, and his beloved dog Chloe. In addition to his parents, wife, and sons, he was preceded in death by daughter-in-law, Carol (Thurman) Edington and brother, Crawford Edington.

Frank will be cremated. There will be no services. Following the wishes of Frank and Avis, their remains will be combined and scattered together in a private ceremony at Marion National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grant County Animal Shelter.
