George S. Kitts

George S. Kitts, age 81 of Marion passed away on Friday, December 24, 2021 at Wesleyan Health Care in Marion surrounded by his loving family.

George was born on October 12, 1940 in Kokomo, Indiana the son of the late Howard and Madelynn (Wilkinson) Kitts.  He was a 1958 graduate of Van Buren High School.

George was a very proud Air Force Veteran serving his country from 1962-1966.  He married Linda Columbus on September 16, 1967, and she survives.  He worked for Holiday Inn Franchise for 20 years, owned Erma’s Restaurant for 12 years, and was the owner of several investment properties.

After retirement, he worked part-time for Raven-Choate Funeral Home for several years assisting families with funerals.  He will be deeply missed by his Raven-Choate family.

George loved Indiana University basketball and Marion High School sports.  He formerly coached baseball in Ohio and followed all of his granddaughter’s high school sports.   He was an avid golfer who enjoyed his trips out West with his buddies, and had experienced three “Holes in One” over the years.

He always had a Corvette or Harley Davidson in his garage!  He was a member of the Aero Club and the Meshingomesia Country Club.  George also served on the board of the Rotary Club and the Grant County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Kitts; children, Jennifer (Shane) Moore, Gregory (Heather) Kitts and Gary (Keri) Thorpe; siblings, Kendall (Cheryl) Kitts, David Kitts, Marilyn (Joe) Barr and Pamelyn (Larry) Taylor; sister-in-law, Vicky Kitts; grandchildren, Sophia, Taylor, Trinity, Chelsea (Blake) and Chase; and great-granddaughter, Leighton.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ronald “Ron” Kitts.

Visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, December 29, 2021 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 30, 2021 in the funeral home with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.  Burial with Military Honors will follow the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
