George "Bruce" Mitchell, 93, Marion, died Friday at Colonial Oaks Healthcare Center.
Bruce was born August 10, 1920 in Kingston, Oklahoma, the son of George and Myrtle Mitchell, and one of eleven children. He married Mardena "Grace" Johnson in 1941 and she survives.
Bruce was employed for 23 years at Boeing Aircraft Company in Wichita, Kansas, where he worked on B52 Bombers and KC135s. He worked other jobs in Kansas, Texas, and Arkansas before moving to Marion in 2003. He retired permanently at age 83, staying true to his motto of "A man's gotta work." Bruce enjoyed gardening, working in his yard, and spending time with his family. He loved telling stories, had a delightful sense of humor, and made friends easily. Bruce was a member of Woodland Hills Church of Christ.
Survivors in addition to his wife of 72 years include sons: Kenny Mitchell and Royce (Jan) Mitchell, all of Marion; five grandchildren, Mindee Mitchell, Golden, Colorado, Luke Mitchell, Marion, Jenna Mitchell, Indianapolis, Jack Mitchell and Ana Mitchell, Shaker Heights, Ohio; sisters, Jenell Munger, Sun City West, Arizona, Helen Elfving, Konowa, Oklahoma, and Howard (Judy) Mitchell, Davis, Oklahoma.
A funeral service will be at noon Wednesday, December 4, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, IN with Tim Purdom and Mark Kemple officiating. Burial will follow the service in Estates of Serenity, Marion. Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. until noon, prior to the service.
