Gordon Gauld Campbell, age 80, passed away peacefully at Marion General Hospital on Saturday, August 20, 2016. He was born on August 16, 1936, in Evanston, Illinois. He was the son of Isabel Gauld Campbell and John O. Campbell.
Gordon graduated from Marion High School and attended Wabash College where he majored in history and played Varsity football. He was a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was a retired purchasing agent for Foster Forbes Glass Company. He was an ardent and devoted Chicago Cubs and Marion Giants fan. Gordon was a voracious reader who dazzled his friends with his knowledge of history and especially of Ancient Greece and Rome. He was a faithful member of Gethsemane Episcopal Church.
Gordon is survived by one daughter, Gwen Campbell and her two children, Owen Joseph Kim and Evelyn Susan Kim, Portland Oregon; two stepsons, Torrance (Nancy) Abel, Austin, Texas; John Abel, Chicago, Illinois; Gordon's brother, John (Denise) Campbell, Amboise, France; and his cousin, Thomas W. Evans, Spokane, Washington.
Gordon was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Susan Campbell and by his parents, Isabel and John Campbell.
The funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Gethsemane Episcopal Church, 111 East 9th Street, Marion, Indiana, with calling in the church preceding the service from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Burial at Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana will follow the funeral service. The Reverend James Warnock and the Reverend Peg Harker will officiate.
Gordon's family and friends wish to thank the staff at Marion General Hospital for the compassionate and excellent care he received there in his final hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Gethsemane Episcopal Church, 111 9th Street, Marion, Indiana, 46953.
