H.W. “Bud” Wiecking (June 15, 1934 – September 3, 2024)

Bud Wiecking, 90, Marion, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at 0554 AM on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in his home. He was born in Bluffton, Indiana, on Friday, June 15, 1934, to Herman Wiecking and Helen Wright.

Bud grew up in Marion and graduated from Marion High School in 1953. He joined the U.S. Army in 1953 and served his country until receiving an honorable discharge in 1955. In 1956 he began working for Fisher Body (later known as GM) as an apprentice coordinator in the Tool & Die shop and retired after 40 years of service in 1996, never wearing a watch again. He married Diana (DeeDee) Harrigan on Saturday, June 7, 1969, she survives.

He was an avid golfer, a lifetime Elks member and spent many days on the courses throughout Grant County shooting rounds of 18 (sometimes 36), scoring two hole-in-ones during his many years of playing. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, ruling card tables playing euchre and poker, hanging out at his favorite local dive bars with his wife and daughters and later in life taking up and playing arcade bowling with the fellas each week at Waylon’s. He was a sports fanatic and a ride-or-die fan of the Indiana Hoosiers, Chicago Bears, Chicago Blackhawks and St. Louis Cardinals, enjoying many road trips throughout the seasons to catch his teams play their rivals.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, DeeDee; children, Brent (Andrea) Wiecking of Reno NV, Beth Ann Duncan of Truckee CA, Dena Thomas of Brownsburg IN, Stephenie (Will) Jackson of Marion, Casey Riggs of Marion; grandchildren, Rachel, Matt, Eli, Piper, Payton, Emerson and Tayne; great-grandson, Beckham; and a host of nieces and nephews, cousins and beloved friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Judy (Wiecking) Barnett and mother-in-law Colleen Harrigan.
