Helen Showalter Hewitt, age 96, of Marion, passed away on Saturday, November 28, 2015.
She was born September 28, 1919 in Merced, California. Helen lived the majority of her 96 years in Marion. She was the daughter of the late Wilbur (Nick) and Helen (Guild) Showalter.
She married Claude Hewitt on March 27, 1942. They were happily married for 57 years. Before moving to Marion, they lived in Huntington, Indiana for 11 years. Claude preceded her in death on January 12, 1997. She was a homemaker and a secretary at McCulloch Middle School for 20 years.
Helen belonged to the South Marion Church of Christ; and was a member of the ABWA. She enjoyed spending time with her family, writing letters to friends, traveling, crocheting and gardening. She also volunteered at the Cancer Society.
She is survived by two sons, Jeffrey Hewitt of Marion, Indiana and David (Beverly) Hewitt of Ft. Wayne, Indiana; daughter, Becky (Stephen) Welch of Woodstock, Illinois; brother, Mr. & Mrs. Richard Showalter; sister, Mrs. Margaret Keith; sister-in-law, Mrs. Marietta Showalter; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a brother, Robert Showalter.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 5, 2015, in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with John Dicus officiating.
Private graveside services will be held in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 4, 2015 in the funeral home.
