Helen Adamson Street

December 18, 1915 — April 21, 2009

HELEN ADAMSON STREET, age 93, of Marion, died at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, April 21, 2009, at Marion General Hospital, Marion.



She was born December 18, 1915, in Rochester, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late George H. and Mary Flora (Smith) Adamson. She was the third of six children. The family moved to Monaca, Pennsylvania where she attended and graduated from Monaca High School.


She married Clarence "Clink" Street and was his lifelong companion for 49 years. They had no living children, but helped raise two sibling sisters with her father after her mother's death in 1931. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Rochester, Pennsylvania.


During World War II, Helen became an architectural draftsman and worked for Michael Baker & Company for 13 years. When Clarence retired from Jones & Laughlin Steel Mill in Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, they moved to California and managed Motel 6 Hotels in a number of cities. They also managed Bethlehem Towers, a residential senior citizen building in Santa Rosa, California.


Helen served many leadership positions in the American Baptist Church, the Federated Women's Club and also as a Girl Scout Leader and Administrator. Upon her husband's death, she began her 17 years as a "Volunteer In Mission" by moving to Greenlake Baptist Convention Center in Wisconsin. She volunteered for Habitat For Humanity, Americus, Georgia; Heifer Project in New Windsor, Maryland and working in the Serrve Gift Store. She moved to Marion in 1997 and volunteered at the Marion Rescue Mission and Cancer Services of Grant County. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church and an associate member of Temple Congregational Church.


Survivors include sister, Jean R. Johnson of Marion, Indiana; and many loving nieces & nephews.


She was also preceded in death by her brothers and sisters.


Memorial Services will be held at a later date. There will be no visitation.
