June 27, 1921 — November 9, 2011

Iris Wahnetta (Sullivan) Schramm, age 90, passed away Wednesday, November 9, 2011, at Marion General Hospital, Marion, Indiana.

Iris was born on June 27, 1921, in Columbus, Ohio, the daughter of the late Colonel Martin and Wahnetta (Tucker) Sullivan. She married Richard O. Schramm on August 18, 1939, and he preceded her in death on December 26, 1986.

Iris was a graduate of the Cincinnati School of Nursing in 1970. She moved to Marion in 1971 from Cincinnati. She then worked as an L.P.N. at Marion General Hospital for 6 years, until her retirement in 1976. She was also a homemaker.

Iris was a very active member of the Marion Church of Christ/Unity Christian Church. She was the church organist for 25 years, choir director for 38 years, and was also a Sunday school teacher. She was a member of the Marion Lyric Club, and a member of the Sounds of Hope Choral Group that toured in the U.S. and Europe.

Iris was a gentle, dignified lady. She had many friends who will remember her as a Christian pillar, strong in spirit. She worked with a joyful heart to do God's bidding. Many considered her a mentor as she was a good, nonjudgmental listener. Although Iris will be dearly missed, she looked forward to the day she would join her loved ones in heaven.

Iris is survived by: son, Martin Schramm (Elizabeth); daughter, Barbara Berling; two daughters-in-law, Ellen Schramm and Mary Jo Schramm; brother, Martin Sullivan; 12 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by two sons, William Schramm and Dr. Andrew Schramm; brothers, Harold Sullivan, Richard Sullivan and Charles Kibbey; and sisters, Jacqueline Moon and Carolyn Johnson.

Burial will be in Green Park Cemetery, Portland, Indiana.

Friends may call from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Saturday, November 12, at the church prior to funeral services.
