Irma Jean Smith Klein, born August 25, 1932, left this world to live for eternity with Jesus and her loved ones in heaven on August 29, 2014. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 60 years, Bill.
Jean was a teacher's aide at Thomas Jefferson and Southeast Elementary Schools for over 20 years. She loved reading to the children and teaching. She was remembered by many for her interpretation of her favorite children's book, Little Orphan Annie. She knew it by heart. She was also an avid reader herself. Before her illness, she was still reading at least five novels a month. She read the Bible several times and loved to discuss it with her pastors. She often said that when she gets to heaven she and God were going to sit down and talk because she had a lot of questions.
Jean leaves behind her husband, Bill; her daughter Karen Cooper of Marion; her son Jeff Klein of Marion; her sister Dorothy Pfefferle of Marion; her grandson, whom she called the light of her life, Jason Cooper (wife Jesse) of Indianapolis, and the most recent addition to her family, her brightest star, great-granddaughter Adeline Mae Cooper.
Besides her immediate family, she also leaves behind several nieces and nephews including Nancy McKillip, Ginny Hamilton, and Becky Apple (Carmel's Kids), Robin Hopkins, Laurie Weller, Ronnie Klein, Kathy Chapman, Michael Kugler, George Klein, Jeanine Little, Suzi Ashbury, Donna Lay, Greg Smith, Terry Klein, Andrea Klein, Cindy Klein; sister-in-law Margaret (Sis) Klein; close friend Joyce Jackson; several "adopted kids" including Larry Brown, Joni Harmon Fenwick, Rick Brown, Ramona Brown Keaffauber, and Jim, Traci, Travis and Ashley Isenbarger; many great nieces and nephews, 10 great-great nieces, 2 great-great-great neices and several cousins.
She was preceded in death by her mother and father, Rolfe and Marie Smith; her brother Donald; and her sister and very best friend, Carmel Smith Apple.
Visitation will be at Hillside Wesleyan Church, 2510 Home Avenue, Marion, Indiana on Saturday, September 6 from 9 - 11 a.m. A celebration of Jean's life will immediately follow at 11 a.m. at the church with Pastor Gary Bingham officiating. Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana is in charge of cremation services.
The family would like to thank the staff at Colonial Oaks for the care that Jean received in her final days. Special thanks to the staff on Chestnut; you are all wonderful. And a very special thank you to Pastor Gary Bingham and Pastor Jim Neal for all the time they spent with Jean in prayer.
We should all remember Jean as a gentle spirit, always caring for others, the young and old. She always worried about other people more than herself. Her legacy will live forever, especially in the hearts of little children. She will soar on eagles' wings - no more sorrow, no more pain. And she will sit forever on that golden porch swing in heaven.
