With his family by his side, James “Jim” Carey passed away on Saturday, March 16, 2019 in his home. Throughout his family’s lives, he has been hero, teacher, mentor and champion of his girls, his grandchildren, and his loving wife and sweetheart, Judy. He has given his family endless laughs and treasured memories. He was immensely proud of all they did and told them he loved them every single day. His family was the light of his life.
Jim was born June 20, 1941 in Detroit, Michigan the son of the late Herman B. and Neva (Harshman) Carey. He was a supervisor for Foster Forbes for 14 years and a salesman for Widmeyer and Dugan, retiring in 1994. He also sold advertising for the F.O.P. (Fraternal Order of Police). He married his sweetheart, Judy Conner on May 28, 1994.
As a young man, Jim founded “Operation Teenager” a program that impacted thousands of teenagers around the state of Indiana by publicly speaking to them about the consequences of poor life choices. Because of his encouragement, Jim received hundreds of letters from students, parents and school administrators, regarding the impact his words had on their lives.
Jim was an avid antique cap gun and marble collector. He loved collecting antiques and annually traveled to Arizona to attend “The Festival of the West” with his wife, Judy.
