James L. Darrow, age 91, passed away September 12, 2010, in Hilliard, Ohio.
James was born on June 9, 1919, in Warren, Indiana, the son of the late Thomas and Stella (Helvie) Darrow. He married Bertaline Blocker on January 22, 1944. His wife of 45 years preceded him in death on March 25, 1990.
James was a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army where he was a Field Artillery and Infantry Unit Commander. He served during WWII, and was a recipient of the Purple Heart, two Battle Stars, Combat Infantry Badge, American Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal and Victory Medal. He later served in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He worked many years in Marion as a Realtor and Builder. He was a former member of the Forty and Eight Honorary Veterans, The American Legion, the Indiana Realtors Association, the Indiana Lumbermen's Association, the United States Trotting Association, the Indiana Trotting and Pacing Horse Association, and the Indiana Harness Horse Association. He was also a former Miami County Fair Director and member of the First Baptist Church.
James is survived by a son, Robert Darrow of Ohio; a daughter, Mary Ann Ochaba of Indiana; and three grandchildren.
Burial was private. Arrangements were entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
