James R. “Jim” Plummer, age 78, Marion, passed away April 15, 2024, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. He was born on July 22, 1945, in Marion, the son of the late Eugene and Betty Plummer. He married Cheryl Jean (Davis) Plummer on August 1, 1968, and she preceded him in death in March of 2006.
Jim served proudly in the United States Army 7th Armored Division, Germany. Later he worked at Glass Containers, Gas City, until their closing, and then in housekeeping at VA Northern Indiana Health Care, retiring after 25 years of service.
Jim was a hard-working man who absolutely loved his family. He enjoyed camping with his family, a tradition that started many years ago. He also enjoyed watching old western movies and reading western novels. James was also very fond of Bald Eagles and would travel around the area to get a good look at them.
He is survived by one daughter; Shari Craig, Marion, one son; James “Jamie” (Connie) Plummer Jr., Marion, three grandchildren; Megan (Mike) Elliott, Andrea (Max) Gorham and Caite (Billy) Brewer, and nine great grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his grandson Zachary Craig, two sisters: Sue Grose and Pat Turner, and one brother, Larry Plummer.
Visitation for family and friends will be Saturday, April 20, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 1:30 PM at Raven Choate Robinson Funeral Home, 1202 W Kem Rd., Marion. Funeral services will begin at 1:30 PM with Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating. Burial will follow at Estates of Serenity.
