James E. Riddle, age 82, of Marion, passed away Monday, November 14, 2016 in his home surrounded by his family.

James was born on October 28, 1934, in Bath County, Kentucky, the son of the late Morton Riddle and Evelyn (Spencer) McCollum.

James was a 1953 graduate of Marion High School.  He married his high school sweetheart, Sharon Secrest on July 6, 1957 and she survives.  He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in France.  He returned to worked at Bell Fibre as a supervisor until his retirement.

James was a member of the Nelson Street Wesleyan Church in Marion.  He was also a lifetime member of the D.A.V.   He spent much time in volunteer service for the Disable American Veterans.  He was commended from two sitting Presidents for his service at the VA.

Although he did not play professional sports, he was quite the athlete.  He played basketball, tennis, football, golf and swimming.  He also loved spending time at the Y.M.C.A.

He is survived by his wife, Sharon Riddle of Marion; son, Jeff S. Riddle of Indianapolis; daughter, Pam Garrison of Gas City; sister, Nancy King of Ft. Wayne; granddaughter, Carla (Elvin) Jackson of Marion; great-grandson, Isaiah Thompson; and his dog, Molly.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Bettie King, son-in-law, Tom Garrison, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, Wayne and Evelyn Secrest.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, November 18, 2016 in Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 17, 2016 in the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will immediately follow the funeral service at 11:00 a.m. in Marion National Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
