James Donald "Don" Tinkle

June 16, 1927 — October 6, 2008

Don was born on June 16, 1927, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Chan Nelson Tinkle and Cecelia Delene (Draper) Tinkle. He died Monday, October 6, 2008 in Parkview Hospital, Ft. Wayne after a brief, sudden illness. He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane (Key) Tinkle and his brother, Jack Tinkle of Marion. His sister, Jeanne Tinkle (Bill) Stanton preceded him in death.

Don married Barbara Jo Barthelemy of Kokomo on June 23, 1951. Together, they had five children: Chan of Chicago, Ann Tinkle-Spurling Rademaker (Steve) of Ft. Wayne, Steve of Tampa, Florida and Rick (Suzanne) of Indianapolis. His youngest son, Andy also preceded him in death. He is also survived by eight grandsons and one granddaughter, Justin (Dana), Zach and Nick Tinkle, Brad and Kyle Spurling, Mike, Rob, Krissy and Paul Tinkle and two great-granddaughters, Addison Tinkle and Delyla Spurling.

Don worked at the Marion General Motors plant, formerly Fisher Body for 25 years retiring from Human Resources in 1981. Faith, family and volunteerism were very important to Don. He was involved with and president of many religious and civic organizations including: JAYCEES, Knights of Columbus, St. Paul's Parish Council and served on the board of directors of the Sisters of St. Joseph. He was a proud member of the 4th. Degree Knights of Columbus, serving as a Color Corps member and Mass server, usher and lector. He was a strong supporter of Catholic schools and proud that his children graduated from Catholic schools, as well as his grandchildren graduating or currently attending Catholic schools.

After mourning the death of his first wife Bobbie, to whom he was married for 24 years prior to her death, Don was blessed to have Mary Jane Key enter his life. Don and Mary have shared 28 wonderful years of marriage together.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2008, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.

Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 9 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. A Rosary Service will be held at 7:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family sincerely requests that memorial contributions be made to The Sisters of St. Joseph, Mission Advancement Office, 1440 W. Division Road, Tipton, Indiana 46072; or to a charity of the donor's choice.
