JOANETTA ADAMS, age 73, died on Monday, August 16, 2010, at home in Sweetser.
JOANETTA was born on January 5, 1937, in Marion, the daughter of the late Willaim J. and Weimer M. (Tharp) Kelly.
JOANETTA worked for SS Kresgees, then Superior Paper where she began her career as a machine tender. She advanced to machine maintenance supervisor, department head, and retired as superintendent. She then worked for the Grant County Sheriff's Department for many years as a dispatcher, retiring in 1999 to spend her retirement years with her grandson Aaron Cornett.
She was very active in her community, serving with the Pleasant Township Fire Department's Ladies Auxillary, and as Clerk-Treasurer for the Town of Sweetser for 7 years.
Joanetta was a very caring individual who always had time for anyone. She was very family oriented and always enjoyed the holidays where she would stay up all night cooking for family dinners. She always loved the time that she spent with the family sitting drinking coffee and going over the past, looking to the future. She was one that was always there for you, to laugh or cry, but she was always there to help. She gladly opened her door when someone was in need of help. One time in a converstation with someone they asked "Why do you not lock your doors in your home?" she responded "What if one of the neighbors should need something?" There were times when someone would page us in need of something and she would tell them where it was located in the house and for them to go in and get it. So many times did she open her doors to help those in need any many times those doors remained open for many years.
She loved to play the organ, piano, and read. In her younger years she enjoyed camping and swimming. Even though she had a modern kitchen in the camper she would still prefer to cook out over an open fire.
Survivors include Daughter, Jodie Cornett of Sweetser, Son, Randy Adams of Sweetser, 5 Brothers, Ross Kelly of Marion, Rex Kelly of Van Buren, Michael Kelly of Marion, David Kelly of Eaton, Jack Kelly of Hartford City, and Grandson, Aaron Cornett of Sweetser.
She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Barbara Miller & Sara Yates.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, August 20, 2010, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Dr. Tom Mansbarger and Chaplain Darrell Smith officiating.
Burial will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m., Thursday, August 19 at the Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
