John C. Bowers, age 93, passed away at 11:53 a.m. Monday, March 7, 2011, at Rolling Meadows Health and Rehabilitation Center, LaFontaine, Indiana.
He was born May 16, 1917, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Frank and Eva (Mickel) Bowers.
He was a graduate of St. Paul's Catholic School, and attended the Indiana Business College, Notre Dame University, and was a seminarian for several years at St. Mary's College in Kentucky and St. Meinrad's in Indiana.
John worked for the Hendey Paint and Wallpaper Company in Marion, and was later a territory salesman for the north central states. He retired in 1982, after working many years for the State of Indiana in Indianapolis. John was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, and a past member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include: brother, Phillip (Gwen) Bowers of Dunbarton, New Hampshire; nieces, Mary (Needler) Machenberg of Roswell, Georgia, Janet (Bourke) Bachman of Carson City, Nevada, Shirley (Bowers) Custer of Hartford City, Indiana, Roberta (Bowers) Hanks of Annadale, Virginia, Laura (Bowers) Mitchell of Dunbarton, New Hampshire, Teresa (Bowers) Reinhardt of Goffstown, New Hampshire, Patricia (Feighner) Farrell of Baldwinville, Massachusetts, Delores (Feighner) Habiby of Marion, Indiana; nephews, Timothy Needler of Indianapolis, Indiana, Jonathon Needler of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Christopher Needler of Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Deloss Bowers of Weston, Colorado, Richard Bowers of Brandon, Florida, Roger Bowers of Alexandria, Virginia, David Bourke of Spartanburg, South Carolina, Michael Bourke of Georgetown, Texas, and Francis Bourke of Raleigh, North Carolina.
John was one of eleven children, and in addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Carl, Earl, Paul and Edwin; and his sisters, Mary Louise Bowers, Avis Hall, Mildred Feighner-Herman, Esther Bourke, and Virginia Needler.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 11, 2011, at St. Paul Catholic Church, 1009 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana, with Father Richard Weisenberger officiating.
Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.
There will be no visitation. Arrangements have been entrusted to Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana 46952.
