John F. Charles, age 87 of Swayzee, Indiana passed away on December 5, 2020.
John was born on September 11, 1933 in Converse, Indiana the son of the late Fred and Alice (Bradford) Charles.
John served in the U.S Marines and then was a machine operator at Dana Corporation for over 42 years until his retirement. He married Barbara Lowe on September 30, 1971, and she survives.
This gentle, humble, loving and wonderful man has left a permanent mark etched on our hearts and will be deeply missed. He was proud and honored to be the loving father of his two daughters, Melissa Charles and Shelle (Brent) Newman. He was a beloved Papa to his grandchildren, Madison (Josiah) Staton, Mackenzie Newman, Keaton Newman, and great-grandchildren, Zoey, Noah and Demi Staton.
John was an avid Indianapolis Colts and IU Basketball fan. You could always count on him cheering on the Hoosiers and Colts in between watching Old Western movies and his favorite Soap Opera, Days of Our Lives. John treasured spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and his constant companions, Charlie and Ellie.
John was also preceded in death by brothers, George and Vernon Charles; and sisters, Ruth Burch, Mary Randolph, Ann Turner, Eloise Hairiel and Joan Malloy.
Private funeral services will be held at Raven- Choate Funeral Home on Thursday, December 10, 2020 with burial to follow in Thrailkill Cemetery, Swayzee, Indiana.
