John W. Copeland

John W. Copeland, age 98 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, November 10, 2020 at Suite Living.

John was born on August 6, 1922 in Marion, Indiana the son of the late Lester and Dorothy (Imler) Copeland.

He married Mabel Lucille Pryor on July 2, 1944 in Columbia, S. Carolina, and she preceded him in death in 2008.  He then married Doris Leseman on August 28, 2010, and she preceded him in death on July 18, 2017.

He served in the U.S. Army during WWII.  John was a firefighter for the Marion Fire Department for 20 years, retiring in 1976.  He then moved to Florida and worked in a machine shop.  He was a member of the Phi-Delta Fraternity; the American Legion Post 10 Marion, and a former member of the Moose in Florida.  John enjoyed fishing and playing golf.

He is survived by a son, John W. Copeland (Carol) of Marion; daughters, Cheryle Garriott (Richard), Jackie Humphries (Harold) and Nancy Nye (Wayne), all of Marion; sister, Marilyn Joann Conner of Arizona; grandchildren, Shelly Lawson (Jeff), Angie Brandenberg (Jeff), Charles Copeland (Amy) and Larry Copeland; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 step-grandchildren.

John was also preceded in death by a son, Bob Friend; brothers, Lemond “Bud” Copeland, Lewis Eugene Copeland, George Copeland and Glenn Copeland; and a sister, Delza Wilson.

Friends and family may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday, November 13, 2020 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 W. Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.  Funeral Services will begin at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Burial will follow funeral services in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
