John E. Fiely, age 79 passed away peacefully at his residence on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at 4:30 a.m. surrounded by his loving family.
John was born in St. Rose, Ohio on January 1, 1932 to the late John J. and Gertrude (Hagadorn) Fiely. John married Alice E. Backs on December 1, 1951, and she survives. John was employed by the Dana Corporation for 32 years and DeVoe Chevrolet and Southworth Ford as a car salesman. In his later years he worked as a counselor with Estates of Serenity where he was the book and records keeper. It was a great joy for John to work with the community.
John was a great sports fan and a football star of St. John's in Maria Stein, Ohio, where he graduated in 1950. John was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, a 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Holy Family Rosary Group, Church Choir, Summit City Chorus of Ft. Wayne, Marion Sons of Harmony and the Elks of Dunkirk, Indiana. He also was a member of S.A.L in Van Buren, Indiana, and his hobbies included: karaoke, crossword puzzles, bowling, golf and fishing.
In addition to his wife Alice, John is survived by his children: Patricia "Patty" (John) Goble, John "Jack" (Judy) Fiely, Karen Lindamood, Kevin (Terry) Fiely and Susan (Randy) Herring; 15 Grandchildren: John (Cindy) Goble, James (Sharon) Goble, Jeremy (Amanda) Goble, John Eric Fiely, Laura Fiely, Andrew Lindamood, Kevin Lindamood, Chad Underwood, Joseph Fiely, Jamie (Calvin) Kung, Andrea (Mike) Ferguson, Chad Herring, Tad Herring, Whitney (Jon) Castor, and Chelsey Herring; 7 Great-Grandchildren; 3 Great-Great Grandchildren; Sister-in-law, Dorothy Fiely; and his dog, Gracie.
John was the last surviving member of his immediate family and was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters.
Funeral services will take place at 11:00 am Wednesday November 16, 2011 at St. Paul Catholic Church with Father Richard Weisenberger, Father Leonard Onwumere, and Father Joseph Grace officiating. Visitation will take place Tuesday, November 15, 2011 from 4:00-8:00 pm at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. The rosary will be recited at visitation between 7:00-8:00 pm. Entombment will take place at Gardens of Memory Cemetery, Marion, Indiana following the funeral services.
