John Anthony Guido, Jr.

July 2, 1943 — January 31, 2021

John Anthony Guido Jr. was born July 2, 1943 to Clara Ingerson Guido Johnson and John Anthony Guido Sr. and passed away on January 31, 2021 at 10:21 p.m. peacefully at home with his family.

John served in the United States Air Force, December 14, 1961 to December 14, 1965. He was fortunate enough to serve in places he enjoyed such as Japan and the Philippines.  On November 27, 1965 John married Beth Ann Simmons at the chapel on Andrew’s Air Force Base after a whirlwind courtship of 9 weeks! She survives.

John retired from Foster Forbes Glass Factory when it closed. After the factory closed, John went back to school and received his high school diploma from Marion High School, where he got to learn culinary arts through the program they had at the Tucker Career Center. He went on to work at the Grant County Sheriff’s Department where he cooked at the Juvenile Detention Center until 2012 when he retired for the second time.

John had a heart for people, he volunteered at VA in the Hospice Unit. He also volunteered at Saint Martin and the Grant County Rescue Mission baking goodies for the men’s meals. John spent 34 years of service work helping alcoholics in honor of his friend Bill W.   John was a Colts fan since 1953.  He loved watching football and spending time with family.

John is also survived by his children, Gregory A. Guido, Laura A. (Gary T. Fordyce, Sr.) Guido; granddaughter, Marya Jean Guido;  step-grandson, Jesse James ( Shelli Hodge) Fordyce; great-grandchildren, Dalton and Serinity Johnson, great step-grandson, Lincoln Fordyce; sister, Dorothea Guido Crumbacker of Maryland; and niece, Michelle Crumbacker Wickline of Maryland.  And last but not least his walking buddy, Effie.

John was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brother, Arthur “Artie”.

At John’s request there will be no services and burial will be held at a later date.
