John W. "Jack" Sherer, age 84, passed away Saturday, July 14, 2012, at Miller's Merry Manor, Marion, Indiana.
Jack was born on October 15, 1927, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of the late Will and Leona (Rhutasel) Sherer.
He was a graduate of Iowa University and was an avid Hawkeye football and basketball fan. Jack was an office administrator for Conrail Railroad for 33 years, retiring in 1991. He was a Army AirForce veteran.
He was a member of the Nelson Street Wesleyan Church. Jack loved to read and write and enjoyed going to the Tree of Life in Marion.
Survivors include: two brothers, Bill (Freda) Sherer, and Duane Sherer, both of Marion, Indiana; two sisters, Lavonne Grice of Geneva, Iowa, and Lois (George) Schuler of Dows, Iowa; and many nieces & nephews. He also enjoyed spending time with nephew, Pastor Rodney & Nancy Schuler and family.
He was also preceded in death by brother, Howard Sherer.
Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the Nelson Street Wesleyan Church, 1502 W. Nelson Street, Marion, Indiana, with the Reverend Steve Fletcher officiating.
Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana.
Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., Thursday, July 19, 2012, at the church.
