John E. Shively

April 20, 1931 — February 25, 2015

John E. Shively, age 83, of Gas City, passed away Wednesday, February 25, 2015, in his home.

John was born April 20, 1931, in Huntington, Indiana, the son of the late Sam and Ella (Barton) Shively. He married the love of his life Donna Price on November 25, 1953, and she survives.

John was a 1950 graduate of Gas City High School. He was an Army veteran and worked as millwright at RCA and Chrysler until his retirement.

He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Gas City. John enjoyed woodworking, lawn work, playing card and board games, fishing on Kuhn Lake and just being outdoors. He was an avid IU and Pacers fan.

Survivors include: wife, Donna Shively of Gas City, Indiana; son, Steve (Tracy) Shively of Gas City, Indiana; three daughters, Lisa (Vince) Beneke of Gas City, Indiana, Susan (Chris) Rosman of Marion, Indiana, and Jane (John) Davis of Marion, Indiana; sister, Janet Colyer of Gas City, Indiana; grandchildren, Logan Shively, Elaine Ellis, Hannah (Tyler) Checkeye, Craig (Macie) Rosman, Jacob Rosman, Bradley Rosman, Andrea (Dan) Lane, Sandy Brown, and John (Jennifer) Davis; great-grandchildren, Hoyt, Kimberly, Kayla, Kaitlin, Kristin, Emma, Kevin (Rochele), Brody and Charley; and great-great grandchild, Payton with another great grandson due in May, and his special pal Murphy.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Billie Jean and Patricia; and daughter Vickie Shively.

Funeral Services will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015, at New Hope Baptist Church, 800 E. South "C" Street, Gas City, Indiana, with Pastor Tim Hewitt and Pastor Mick Simpkins officiating.

Friends may call from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 1, 2015 in the church prior to funeral services.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Colonial Oaks Health and Rehab, Marion Rehab, Angels of Mercy, Heart to Heart Hospice, Marion Family Practice, Marion Surgeons, and the Veterans Administration for the excellent care given to John.
