Josephine "Jo" Cope

JOSEPHINE "JO" COPE, age 72, died on Saturday, November 21, 2009, at Marion General Hospital, Marion.

Jo was born on April 23, 1937, in Knott County, Kentucky, the daughter of the late Arthur & Bertie (Cook) Ashley.

She was a Nurses Aide at the Marion VA Hospital for 18 1/2 Years, retiring in 1997. She was also a licensed beautician and worked at Genesis House in Marion.

Jo was of the Baptist Faith, a Pacers fan, and a proud coal miners daughter. She loved to spend time with her children and will be greatly missed by all.

Survivors include: daughter, Jonell Tyree (Bernie) of West Milton, Ohio; daughter, Cathy Graves of Marion, Indiana; daughter, Paula Pauley (Kevin) of Hartford City, Indiana; brother, Ed Ashley (Elaine) of Marion, Indiana; sister, Pauline Stamps of West Carrolton, Ohio; sister, Elma Ritchie (Sam) of Hazard, Kentucky; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; special friends, Marilyn Rump, Betty Bowlds, Ginny Bell, Bertie Horton and all the ladies in her building.

She was preceded in death by son, James E. "Jimmy" Adams, grandson, "Lil Red" Graves, great-grandchildren, Bernard Tyree, III.and Gaige Cunningham; brothers, Charles B. Ashley, J.E. Ashley, & Art "Junior" Ashley.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Donnie Ashley and Chaplain Darrell Smith officiating.

Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday, November 23 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
