KENNETH A. DOOLEY, age 96, of Marion, died at 6:18 p.m. Friday, September 25, 2009, in Marion Genral Hospital, Marion.
He was born September 21, 1913, in Grant County, Indiana, the son of the late Paul and Mildred (Smith) Dooley. He married Helen Ancil in 1940. She preceded him in death in October 2004.
He was a 1932 graduate of Marion High School. He was a WWII Naval Seabee veteran serving at Guadalcanal. He worked for 40 years at the Veterans Hospital in the greenhouse and as a carpenter. He retired in 1974.
He was a member of the V.F.W.; American Legion, Van Buren; the Amvets; a charter member of the Nut Growers Association and a member of the Northern Nut Growers Association. He recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from Purdue University.
Survivors include: son, David Dooley of Cicero, Indiana; two brothers, M. Dean Dooley (Connie) of Indianapolis, Indiana, and Melvin Dooley (Doris) of Huntington, Indiana; sister, Pauline Harreld of Georgia; grandson, Kenneth D. Dooley of Marion, Indiana; and several nieces & nephews.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Anne Lorene Purvis and Willodean McKee.
Friends may call from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. Saturday, October 3, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana. Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend John Bellante officiating.
Burial will be in Gardens of Memory, Huntington County, Indiana at a later date.
