L. Keith "Moe" Moriarity, age 77, of Monticello, formerly of Jonesboro, passed away peacefully at 4:45 p.m. Thursday, February 12, 2009, surrounded by family at the Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda, Florida after a sudden two week illness. During the two weeks before his passing, he was able to spend special time with all of his children.
Keith was born on March 4, 1931, in Marion, Indiana, the son of the late Patrick M. and Gladys (Myers) Moriarity. He married Wilma Jean Scott on Setpember 23, 1951. She survives.
He was a graduate of Van Buren High School and a U.S. Air Force Veteran. He worked in tool & die at the Marion General Motors plant (formerly Fisher Body) for 30 years, retiring in 1986. He operated Marion Youth Baseball BINGO for many years making many new friendships along the way. Moe was an avid bowler carrying the highest left-handed average in several leagues in Grant County for more than 10 years. He sat out of bowling for almost 15 years before starting back up as a sub for several leagues. It wasn't long before he was back bowling on a regular basis again, when in 1993, he and his youngest son, Patrick achieved the county's first "Father-Son" 700 Series each in the same night.
After retirement, he and Wilma enjoyed spending time with family and friends at their home in Monticello during the summer months and the cold winter months in Port Charlotte, Florida. He enjoyed making woodworking crafts for family and loved working SUDOKU puzzles as his daily ritual and always loved being the first one to complete the puzzle correctly! One of his favorite pastimes was playing cards of all kinds with his family.
