Laura A. Telles, age 47, of Marion, passed away after an extended illness August 1, 2016 at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Wayne, where she was surrounded by loved ones.
She was born, April 30, 1969 in Hollywood Florida, to the late Elaine J. Nichols. Her mother preceded her in death just this June 30th.
She was a 1987 graduate of Marion High School and avid Marion Giants fan most of her life. She briefly attended Purdue University before returning home to eventually care for her ailing grandparents.
Laura considered Marion her forever home and would defend it to anyone that knocked our small town. She enjoyed talking about historic Marion, including her Great Uncle Lee Nichols former iconic restaurant, The Grand Hamburg that resided at 5th and Boots and loved to hear stories from her Mom about how it used to be.
She worked a short time at the former Shirt Shed factory, as well as for Mason Village. Prior to her illness, she worked for Marion Kem Road Animal Hospital. This allowed her to be near animals which were a passion for Laura. She had a deep love for all four legged creatures and their owners.
Some of Laura's favorite days were spent with her mother seeing shows at the Honeywell theatre in Wabash or hanging out with friends both in person and online. She had many hobbies, including, crocheting, baking, watching NASCAR, Colts football, and collecting Christmas decorations. Those that knew Laura will greatly miss her sarcastic wit and beautiful smile.
Survivors include her Aunt, Laura Nichols, who lovingly cared for Laura these past months and who Laura was named after, as well as Uncle Roy Oehlers, and many cousins in Marion, Florida, and the West Coast.
She was also preceded in death by her grandparents, Karl and Wilma Nichols, her Aunt Carol, her Uncle John, her beloved dog Lucky, and cat Miss Molly.
