Leroy Moon

September 4, 1925 — October 15, 2010

LEROY MOON, age 85, died on Friday, October 15, 2010, at Lutheran Hospital, Ft Wayne.

He was born on September 4, 1925, in Fairmount, Indiana, the son of the late Nathan and Bertha (Maxwell) Moon . On February 7, 1947, he married Mary Ann Hayes. His wife of 63 years preceded him in death on September 26, 2010.

Leroy worked at Cashway Lumber Company for 48 years as their custom carpenter and ran the specialty ordering department. He was a very accomplished carpenter and woodworker.

He is a Marine who served in the South Pacific during WWII and provided personal security for President Harry Truman on his visits to the theatre. He provided personal security for General Douglas MacArthur as well.

Leroy was a member of National Rifle Association, an avid hunter, shooter, and enjoyed reloading his own ammunition. He got great joy from riding his motorcycle, had a passion for hunting and collecting arrowheads, was a Colts fan, but closest to his heart were his wife, son, and grandchildren.

Survivors include: Son, David W Moon (Angie) of Urbana, Indiana, Grandsons, David Scott Moon of Monticello, Michael Moon of Elwood, and Adam Moon of Marion, Great-Grandchildren, Nathan, Jessica, Tyler, Jacee, Kamryn, and Tanner Moon.

He was also preceded in death by his Brothers, John and Clarence Moon and his Sister, PaulineWright.

Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with Reverend Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating.

Burial with Military honors will be in Estates of Serenity, Marion, Indiana.

Friends may call from 4 - 8 p.m., Tuesday, October 19 at the Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana.
