Lillie B. (Kerr) Purdom, age 96, of Marion, passed away Monday morning, December 8, 2014, at Heritage Pointe, in Warren, Indiana.
Lillie Kerr was born May 25, 1918, Kettle (Martinsburg), Kentucky. She married Wallace (Bud) Purdom on March 10, 1947, and he survives. The couple was blessed with over 67 years of marriage.
Lillie was preceded in death by her parents, Millard and Pearl (Short) Kerr; six brothers, Fred, Wheeler, Frank, Jack, Printes and Osby; five sisters, Dessie, Dellie, Thelma, Gladys and Inell; daughter and son-in-law, Teresa and Phillip Cunningham; daughter-in-law and grandson, Toni (Harmon) and Joshua Purdom; and great-grandson, Peyton Cunningham.
Lillie pursued her nurses training at Lousiville General through the Cadet Nurses Corp Program during WWII. Lillie, along with classmates, Jean and Gayle Wiseman came to the Marion VA to fulfill their service commitment as the war came to an end. Lillie met Bud, her future husband, at the VA where they both were working. Lillie later worked as an RN at Marion General Hospital, as a private duty nurse, and an office nurse for Dr. Richard Lahr. Lillie was a faithful disciple from the age of seventeen, and a member of the Woodland Hills Church of Christ. She was a loving wife and mother well known for hospitality and for being an excellent cook. She wrote many notes of encouragement through the years. She was always ready with a kind word, and to share her precious faith, demonstrating her concern for others. A beautiful soul has gone on to her eternal reward.
Survivors include: her husband, Wallace Purdom of Marion, Indiana; siblings, Vennie Cunningham, Nina Hopper and Albert Kerr; daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn and Rex Keene; son and daughter-in-law, Timothy and Christine Purdom. Lillie is also survived by nine grandchildren, Kelly (Keene) Wallace, Ryan and Jason Keene, Koren (Purdom) Seago, Jared Purdom, Chad and Corey Cunningham, and Casey (Cunningham) Newby. There are 11 great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, December 12, 2014, at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, 1202 Kem Road, Marion, Indiana with Galen Miller and Mark Kemple officiating.
Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park Cemetery, Marion, Indiana.
Friends may call from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Friday in the funeral home prior to funeral services.
