Margaret A. (Burwick) Perin, age 94, of Marion, passed away at 6:05 a.m. Tuesday, February 15, 2011, at the Rolling Meadows Health Care Facility in LaFontaine.
Margaret was born on January 10, 1917, in Grant County, Indiana, the daughter of the late William and Mable (Miner) Burwick. She married Stanley E. Perin on April 13, 1940. He preceded her in death on July 26, 2002.
Margaret was a graduate of Marion High School and earned her Bachelors degree in Elementary Education at Marion College. She then earned her Masters Degree in Reading at Ball State University. She was a teacher and primary consultant for Marion Community Schools for 21 years, until her retirement. She was selected as an Outstanding Elementary Teacher of America in 1974 in recognition of her contribution to the advancement of elementary education and service to the community.
She was a Co-Founder and the first President of the Marion Area International Reading Association and served as secretary and newsletter editor of the State International Reading Association. She was a member of the Eastern Star; the Grant County Retired Teachers Association; the Grant County Senior Citizens and served as Vice President and Program Chairman of the International Association for the Study of Perception. Margaret was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church where she was a charter member of the Edna Naftzger Circle. She taught both children and adult classes and served on the church library committee. She was a member of Mt. Olive United Methodist Church. She was an avid reader and enjoyed flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include two sons, John Perin (Edith) of Tempe, Arizona, and David Perin (Laurie) of Marion, Indiana, 4 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 18, 2011 at Raven-Choate Funeral Home, with the Reverend Bob Dexter officiating.
Private burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion, Indiana.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mt. Olive United Methodist Church, the American Diabetes Association or the American Heart Association.
